Die Forschung am Standort Schwarzheide ist Bestandteil des weltweiten Forschungsverbundes der BASF. Sie profilierte sich aufbauend auf einer mehr als 30jährigen Erfahrung auf dem Gebiet der Polyurethane zum europäischen Kompetenzzentrum für Polyole und Isocyanate. Die Klenk Holz AG betreibt in Südbrandenburg das nach eigenen Angaben größte Kiefernsägewerk Europas. Bei einem jährlichen Umsatz von 360 Millionen Euro werden am Standort Baruth eine Million Festmeter Kiefernholz pro Jahr verarbeitet. 40 Prozent davon werden in Länder wie die USA oder Japan exportiert.
